The tropical pineapple belongs to the bromeliaceas
family, from bromeliales
, which corresponds to the species Ananas comosus. Bromilaceas
is the common name of a family of plants with flowers characterized by exclusive leaves scales which have the property of retaining water, and regular flowers three pieces. The leaves are generally spirally arranged in layers. The embryo of the plant has a single leaf or cotyledon. The family, with more than 2.000 species and 46 genera are almost exclusively limited to tropical and subtropical regions of America. The tropical pineapple is terrestrial; the plant reaches a meter of altitude. It has short stems and enlarged petioles, which overlap between them so they form a kind of water deposit in the base of the plant; the leaves act like bend to capture water, and the deposit as reserve.
